The tragic plane crash that happened in May of 2017 is merely a recent example of a phenomenon that has been occurring for centuries.   We all know the Bermuda Triangle as the place where people disappear.  Where planes crash and burn.  Where ships sink to the ocean bottom.  A pointed shape in the Atlantic where people go… and vanish, sometimes without a trace.

Hundreds of disappearances, crashes, and so on have been linked to the Triangle, though a definitive number is hard to pinpoint.  Regardless, the best way we can hope to get a grip on the deadly (or not-so-deadly) secret lingering in that haunted corner of the world is to examine the evidence, and in this instance, the evidence is in the wreckage.  Or, more often, in the wreckage that was never found.

If we examined every single disappearance in complete depth, this manuscript would quickly turn into an encyclopedia, or at least a textbook, to the exclusion of all other theories, debate, and suspicion. Instead, as we move forward, we’re going to spend time examining many of the more popular or noteworthy occurrences that have happened in the Bermuda Triangle, listed sequentially.  Form your own conclusions about what may have happened to these unfortunate people, and keep your eyes peeled.

1609: The Sea Venture

While not the most mysterious incident that has occurred within the vertices of the Triangle, no history of the Bermuda Triangle — or Bermuda itself — could be complete without a mention of the Sea Venture.

The history of Bermuda that we know today starts with the Sea Venture, a vessel that brought the first permanent European settlers to Bermuda’s shores.  But quite ironically, given the history that was to come, these settlers weren’t aiming for Bermuda: they wanted to get to the famous Jamestown, Virginia.  Instead, they became trapped in one of Bermuda’s legendarily terrifying storms and the Sea Venture ended up crash landing on the shores of Bermuda in 1609.

All of the men survived and the wreckage didn’t disappear since it was found in the 20th century.  Nonetheless, it’s remarkable that even the first European settlement on Bermuda involved strange events and a crash landing.

1800: The USS Pickering

Now, this is where the story truly begins. The USS Pickering set off from Delaware, headed south, and entered the waters of the Bermuda Triangle.  The ship had a crew of 90. In August 100, the Pickering vanished without a trace.

1812: The USS Patriot

The USS Patriot was a schooner that set sail in 1812 and was lost at sea.  This instance was most noted for the fact that one of the passengers onboard was Theodosia Burr Alston, the daughter of United States Vice President Aaron Burr.

Bermuda Triangle is a strange triangular area on the Atlantic ocean where many ships sailing through it or planes flying over it have apparently disappeared without a trace. In few of such cases where wrecks could be found, the crew had vanished. And such incidents have been happening since centuries. More than 1,000 ships and planes have disappeared in the triangle area over the past five centuries and such mysterious incidents on the Atlantic continue to take place even at present days.
