Endymion was a handsome shepherd, hunter or king in ancient Greek mythology, who lived in the region of Elis and had a great influence on people. He was the son of Zeus, and had a legendary beauty.

Selene was the Titan goddess of the moon who fell in love with him, and asked Zeus to give him eternal youth. She used to visit him every night while he lay asleep in a cave on Mount Latmus in Caria. Later on she bore him 50 daughters.
