The name given to the reaction between an ‘acid and a base’ is neutralisation. The products formed in such reactions are salt and water.

EXPLANATION:

An acid is a ‘compound’ consisting of a positive hydrogen ion. A base on the other hand may have an oxide anion of two negative charges or a hydroxyl ion with a negative charge. The compounds with hydroxyl ions are called alkalis.

When an acid reacts with a base the hydrogen ion of the acid reacts with the oxide or hydroxyl ion of the base to produce water and the cation of the base reacts with the anion of the acid to form a salt. Since salt is a neutral compound the reaction is called neutralisation.
