Let displacement  y =asin(ωt)

Since displacement is the function of time,so the slope of the displacement curve gives velocity of the object.

V = \dfrac{dy}{dt} = a \omega cos( \omega t))

While the acceleration represents the double derivative of the displacement,since it is negative in magnitude so it is called retardation.

acceleration = -a\omega ^{2} sin(\omega t)
