Bismillah Khan was born on March 21,1916 in Bihar.His grandfather Rasool bux Khan was the Shehnai Nawaz of the Bhojpur King's Court.His father Paigambar bux Khan was also a great Shehnai player.When he was three years old, he went to Banaras his maternal uncle's house. there he was fascinated towards the Shehnai and practiced with maternal uncle Ali Bux Khan the whole day.The temple of Balaji,Mangal bhaiya and Bank of the Ganga become his favourite hunt.At the age of five years,he played gilli- danda in Dumraon.In Bihari ji's Temple he would Singh Chaita and earn 1.25 kg big laddoos.In 1938,when all India radio station was opened in Lucknow,he become Shehnai player on radio.
On 15 August 1947,he was the first Indian who greeted the nation with his Shehnai from Red Fort.He visited many countries and took many awards.He worked some films. He took some awards like Padma Shri,Padma Bhushan and Padma vibhushan.In 2001 he was awarded the highest Indian civil award-The Bharat Ratna and said all I would like to say "teach your children music,this is Hindustan richest tradition.He loved India very much being a devoted Muslim he is a perfect example of the rich cultural, heritage of INDIA

Bismillah Khan had accompanied his uncle to the Allahabad Music Conference at the age of 14. At the end of his recital, Ustad Faiyaz Khan patted his back and told him to work hard and he shall make it big in life. He got his big break with the opening of the All India Radio in Lucknow in 1938. He soon became an often-heard Shehnai player on radio.
