Grasslands found in Temperate regions are called Temperate Grasslands.

Examples are very famous- Prairie in North America, Steppes in Russia, Velds in Southern Africa,etc.

They are grasslands because- Grasses are predominant there.

The rainfall there is on the lesser side just to sustain grasses or a few shrubs.

Most are situated on the Leeward(Rainshadow area) of mountain ranges

Whenever trees start growing there, wildfire or animals finish them up.
