Chandrayaan-2 is ISRO’s second unmanned lunar mission.

It was launched on July 22 from the same launch pad from which Chandrayaan 1 had taken off.

This was in succession to Chandrayaan-1, which orbited the moon in 2008 and helped confirm the presence of water on lunar surface.

It was launched on board 'Bahubali' GSLV Mk III, the Rs 603-crore rover will analyse minerals to map the moon's surface and search for water.

  • Chandrayaan 2 Orbiter is capable of communicating with Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) at Byalalu as well as the Vikram Lander.
  • The precise launch and mission management has ensured a mission life of almost seven years instead of the planned one year.
