NATURE OF HYDROXIDES

according to Gallis if electronegativity pf A in a hydroxide (AOH) is more than 1.7 then it will be acidic in nature whereas it will be basic nature if electronegativity is less than 1.7

for example

NaOH

Electronegativity (Xa) = 0.9

Nature:- Basic

CIOH

Electronegativity (Xa) 3.00

Nature :- Acidic

if the values is more than Xo-XH , then that hydroxide will be basic otherwise it will be acidic.
