Metallic oxide are bases in nature because they react in diluted acids to form from salt and water. they also reacts water to from metal hydroxide which are alkalis in water. these are metal oxide release OH- ions in solution. on the other hands, non metal oxides reacts with water to from acidic solution which liberate H+ ions in solution. therefore non metallic oxides are acids in nature.

Metallic oxides reacts with oxygen in the air to produce non-metal oxides. Here are 2 e.g: 1.carbon 2.sulphur.
Non-metal oxides such as sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide are responsibility for acid rain. They dissolve in the clouds to form acidic solution.
