At first, all bodies are neutral. Then to make themselves stable, they lose or gain electrons. In an atom, the charge is neutral as the number of protons are the same as the number electrons. now, when an atom loses an electron, the protons are greater in number, that is why there is positive charge. And when they gain an electron, the electrons are greater in number, that is why there is negative charge.
