Waves moving throughwater deeper than half their wavelength are known asdeep-water waves. On the other hand, the orbits ofwater molecules in wavesmoving through shallowwater are flattened by the proximity of the sea surface bottom.

ANS:  Tides and tsunamis are shallow-water waves, even in the deep ocean. The deep ocean is shallow with respect to a wave with a wavelength longer than twice the ocean's depth.  The nature of the ocean waves in the deep water is both transverse and longitudinal.
