Most of the alpha particles pass straight without any deflection

Some of them experience deflections but of small angles

1 out of 20,000 deflects by angles between 90 and 180

In the Rutherford's scattering experiment , most of the alpha particles were observed to go straight through the gold foil or were deflected only very slightly as they passed through.through the nucleus.  which was positively charged , this showed that the alpha rays are positively charged in nature.
