What is the necessity of political parties in a democratic set up ?explain

Elections r important in the democratic set up.They r held at periodical intervals.In India they r conducted once in 5 yrs but this period varies from one country to another.Elections conducted once in 5 yrs r called GENERAL ELECTION.            Democracy is the government of representatives who r elected for a particular period.So after the completion pf the term,new representatives should be elected through periodical elections.So they r very essential for the success of democracy.
