DNA copying is also known as DNA replication which is a process by which DNA makes an exact copy of itself. It is a biological process and occurs in all living cells. At the time of DNA replication or copying in some cases base pairs may be copied or joined in wrong place. If the proof reading activity done by RNA polymerase fails to detect the wrong base pairs it remains as mutation and therefore forms new DNA strand with different base pair. This result in variation is characters in the organism carrying that mutated new DNA strand

Hope it helps !!!
