It is difficult to study each and every element individually and to know its properties and uses. Therefore, they have been classified into groups on the basis of their similarities in properties.

Classification of elements is necessary to make their study easy . By the process of classification of elements , we group together the elements with same characteristics. As it is impossible to study each element separately and deal with their different properties so they are grouped together in the periodic table .

With rapid advance in science, the number of discovered element increased it is difficult to study and remember the behavior and properties of each and every element and also how they form the compounds hence attempts have been made to classify these elements in to groups of elements having similar characteristics.

The next thing in our review is to classify the elements into three groups. These three groups are: metals, nonmetals, and inert gases. Let's look at where these groups are located on the periodic table and correlate them with the ability to lose and gain electrons.
