We should manage and conserve water resources because of the following reasons:

1.Industries especially heavy industries use huge amount of fresh water for industrial purpose and pollute and waste such water.

2.Multiplying urban centers with large and dense populations and urban life styles have not only added to water and energy requirements but have further aggravated the problems.

3.Much of water is polluted by domestic and industrial wastes, chemicals, pesticides and fertilizers used in agriculture thus, making it unfit for human use.

4.To facilitate production, water resources, are being over-exploited to expand irrigated areas and dry season agriculture.

5.Water scarcity is an outcome of large and growing population and consequent greater demands for water and unequal access to it.

To cup with water scarcity different ways of conversing and managing in ancient times and multi purpose projects in modern times came up ;

Water scarcity is the major problem, to overcome water scarcity there is a need of conserving and managing of water.

Multiple - purpose river projects;

Multi - purpose river project launched after independence aims to develop proper management of water resources storing river water for many purpose.

Objectives of multi - purpose are;

• Generation of electric power

• Soli conservation

• Flood control

• Irrigation

• Afforestation.
