Newton's Laws of Motion,,,Newton's first law states that every object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change its state by the action of an external force. This is normally taken as the definition of inertia.

➨ According to Newton's first law of motion:-

A body at rest will remain at rest, and a body in motion will be in motion, until unless an external force applied to it.

➨ Here, external force means a force from outside the the object which is in motion or in rest.

➨ Let's take an example,

• Body at rest will be at rest unless an external force is applied to it.

Suppose a pen is lying on the table.Means it is at rest. This pen at rest will not move from itself. It can only change it's place when the force of our hand applied to it, in lifting the pen from the table.

• Body in motion will be motion unless an external force is applied to it.

Let's assume a cricketer hits the ball and now that ball is at motion. It will not stop from itself. It will stop when somebody will catch it or it can stop due to the gravitational force.

➨ Newton's first law of motion is also known as inertia.

The tendency of a body to remain at rest or to continue moving, is called as inertia.

Newton has proposed three laws to describe motion. These laws are know as Newton's laws of motion.

Newton's First Law Of Motion :-

A body at rest will remain at rest, and a body in motion will be in motion, until unless an external force applied to it.

Newton's Second Law Of Motion :-

The rate of change of momentum of an object is directly proportional to the applied force.

Newton's Third Law Of Motion :-

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. When one body exerts certain amount of force on another body the second body also exerts an equal and opposite amount of force on first body.
