His third law states that for every action (force) in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction. In other words, if object A exerts a force on object B, then object B also exerts an equal and opposite force on object A.

Newton's third low of motion :

Nature force act alone. Force is a reciprocal action between two objects. Forces are always applied in pairs . When one object applies a force on another object , the latter object also simultaneously applies a force on the former object . The force between two objects are always equal and opposite. This idea is in Newton's third law of motion. The force applied by the first object is called action force while the force applied by the second object on the first is called reaction force.

Simply in newton's third law of motion,

  • "Every action force has an equal and opposite reaction force which acts simultaneously".

Some important points to be remembered :

  1. Action and reaction are terms that express force.
  2. These forces act in pairs . One force cannot exist by itself .
  3. Action and reaction forces act simultaneously.
  4. Action and reaction forces acts on different objects . They do not act on the same object and hence cannot cancel each other's effect.
