This is really puzzling in the sense that it is difficult to find the rules that is generating those numbers. Here is my guess, and the logic behind it.

My guess is 48. The reason: Looking at the first two numbers, the second one is twice the first one. 6=2x3 The 3d number 10 may be obtained by adding 4 to the second number. 6+4=10. Now let us start with the number 10. The next is 2x the previous number. 2 times 10=20 The 3d number is obtained by adding the number 4 to get 24. 20+4=24.

So a rule start to emerge

3, 2x3=6, 6+4=10 10, 2x10+20 20+4=24 So to continue with these rules in the sequence , now we start with 24 as the first number. the second number in this new group will be twice the first number, which is 24x2=48. and the next one after 48, following the rule, add 4 to the second number in the group of 3, will be 48+4=52. So the required number, needed to be find is 48. I just carried it further one more step.
