Madhavdev, one of the most popular Vaishnava saints in Assam.

He is popularly known as Mahapurush. He was born in 1489 at Letekupukhuri in Lakhimpur district of Assam to Govindagiri Bhuyan and Manorama.

Saint poet and author Madhavdev composed Nam Ghoxa and Bhakti Ratnavali- two of important spiritual works in Assam.

Madhavdev accepted Sankardev as his guru.

Sankardev accepted Madhavdev as his prana bandhava ( friend of soul ) and appointed him later as his successor.

Madhavdev religiously carried his guru's legacy and established several satras that have served as foundation for the moderate thoughts and beliefs of centuries.
