National rural employment guarantee act 2005 was passed in September 2005 it's main features are:
provide 100 days assured employment every year to every household in 200 rural districts
The scheme was later extended to 600 districts
One-third of the proposed jobs would be reserved for women
If an applicant does not get work within 15 days, he or she will be entitled to unemployment allowance
Central government will establish national employment guarantee fund and state government will establish state employment guarantee fund for the implementation of the scheme.
