before the fertilization, the human oocyte has no nucleus, because it is in metaphase II, therefore only the metaphase plate is present on the periphery of the oocyte. After the fertilization, there is in first hours no nucleus, the male pronucleus develops from spermatozoon head, the female pronucleus develops from oocyte chromosomes. At about 20h after the fertilization, both the male and the female pronuclei are approx. 25µm large. The pronuclei disappear just before first mitosis.
