Firstly, 0 is not a natural number, it is a whole number.

Secondly, when any natural number is divided by itself, the result is unity(1).

To understand this better, consider the simple example of a person having say X items(where X is a natural or counting number), and seeks to divide them among X people, then each person will get 1 unit.

When a person has 0 items(no items) and wishes to distribute that among 0 people, will each person receive 1 unit?

No!

That is why we say that 0/0 cannot be determined. In Calculus, you will learn an approach called the L’Hospital’s rule to deal with such indeterminate forms.
