Let the number be x

so by the condition given in your question we get equation

2x - 42 = x/2

( 2x - 42 ) 2 = x

4x - 84 = x

4x - x = 84

3x = 84

x = 84/3

x = 28

so your required number is 28

Heya ☺

Let the required number be x. Then,

according to question,

2x + x/2 = 45

=> 4x + x/2 = 45

=> 5x/2 = 45

=> x = 45 × 2/5

=> x = 18

Hence, the required number is 18.
