Whereas displacement is the shortest distance travelled by a body.The ratio of displacement to distance is always equal or less than 1 because for curved path distance is greater than displacement for straight path they are equal that's why the value always calculated is 1 or less than 1.

This can be derived also from the formula of both quantities:

So,

It gives as

Δt=1

And we now this is a change (Δt) so also this value can less than 1 and will not excede 1.
