Answer:

so, the apparent weight of the floating block is equal to zero because the weight of the block acting vertically downwards is balanced by buoyant force acting upwards .

Answer:-

The numerical value for the apparent weight of a floating body is equal to zero.

Explanation:-

When we take an object, place it in water and observe it to float, we can infer that if m is mass of the object then it's weight [mg] is acting downwards. Also as the ball is in equilibrium while floating, a force equal to mg is acting on the ball vertically upwards called Buoyant force.

Since, these two forces are equal in magnitude while an object is floating, thus they cancel out the effect of each other and the value for apparent weight of a floating body becomes zero.

Proof:-

Let the weight acting downwards be W and buoyant force acting upwards we B.

Since, the body is floating and is in equilibrium :-

=> W = B. --(1)

Let the apparent weight be X.

=> X = W - B

=> X = W - W. [∵ W = B ]

=> X = 0
