The one difference between the head and tails of a phospholipid in the cell membrane is that the head is attracted to water and the tails are repelled by water.

  • Due to this nature of the head and tail of the phospholipid in the cell membrane the heal is called hydrophilic while the tail is called hydrophobic.
  • The term hydrophilic means the things that are attracted to water or love water while hydrophobic means the things that are repelled by water or hate water.
  • The head is considered polar due to the negative charge of the phospholipid while the tail is considered to be non polar.
