What is the origin of Kabbadi and Pro Kabbadi League ?
It is believed that Kabbadi originated in the vedic period of ancient India. However, Kabbadi became a part of the Indian Olympic Games in 1938.
The Pro Kabbadi League (PKL) was established in 2014 and was administered by Mashal Sports.
Kabaddi is a contact team sport which is played between two teams, each of seven players. In Kabbadi, a single player of one team, referred as a raider, goes into the opposing team's half, tags out as many of their defenders as possible, and returns to their own half of the court, without being stackled by the defenders. Points are scored on the number of members of the opposing team tagged by the raider and for the opposing team, points are scored for tackling the raider. Players are taken out of the game if they are tagged or tackled by the opposing team but are taken back in for each point scored by their team from a tag or tackle.
Kabbadi was added to the Asian Games' Programme in 1990.
