Regur/Black Soil

Explanation:

  • Black/regur soils located in the "lava-covered" areas and these soils are  referred to as "regur", and are commonly known as “black cotton soils". This is because the soil is mostly used for cultivating cotton crops.
  • Owing to its high clay content, black/regur soils develop wide cracks in the dry season, however, regur/black soils are "iron-rich granular structure" which makes the soil resistant to water & wind erosion. They are poor in humus content but "highly moisture-retentive", therefore responding quite well to irrigation
  • Black Soils/Regur soils are trap lava deriatives which is distributed over primarily the interior of , Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, & Madhya Pradesh on the Malwa Plateau & Deccan lava Plateau.
