let oxidation number of cr be X

therefore 2+2x-(2×7)=0

implies 2x+2=14

implies 2x=12

implies X=+6

Thus oxidation number of chromium(Cr)is +6

The oxidation number Cr in Na2Cr2O7 is +6.

Explanation for the answer:

  • The total number of electrons which an atom either gains or loses in order to form a chemical bond with some another atom is known as oxidation number.
  • It is also called an Oxidation state.
  • Here, we have to calculate the oxidation number Cr in Na2Cr2O7.
  • Firstly, let the oxidation no. Cr be x.
  • Therefore, 2 + 2x - (2 × 7) = 0
  • 2 + 2x - (2 × 7) = 0
  • Therefore, 2x + 2 = 14
  • Thus, x = 6
  • Hence, the oxidation no. Cr = +6.
