The vestibule is the region of the inner ear where the semicircular canals converge, close to the cochlea (the hearing organ). The vestibular system works with the visual system to keep objects in focus when the head is moving. Joint and muscle receptors also are important in maintaining balance.

The inner most part of the ear along with hearing also plays important role in maintaining our balance. The vestibular system is the area responsible for maintenance of balance. It has thousands of hair cells that are sensitive to pressure waves and they convert these waves into mechanical vibrations. This helps in detecting altitude and any linear or rotational motion. Also in a inner, there are semicircular canals containing a fluid called endolymph. It helps to regulates movements of rotation, acceleration or inclination.
The inner ear therefore contains what we can call the bony labyrinth which contains cochlea, semicircular canals and the vestibule. The vestibule connects the cochlea to semicircular canals and also contain two structures important for balance and equilibrium. These are saccule and utricle which collects information and send to brain.
