The atmosphere is not physically uniform. There are significant changes in temperature and pressure with altitude. So there are different atmospheric layers. They are the troposphere which extends from 0 to 16 km, stratosphere which extends from 16 to 50 km, mesosphere which extends from 50 to 80 km and thermosphere which extends from 80 to 640 km.
The boundaries between these layers have abrupt changes in temperature. They are known as the tropopause which lies between the troposphere and the stratosphere, stratopause which lies between the stratosphere and mesosphere, and mesopause which lies between the mesosphere and thermosphere.
So the order is as follows:
Thermosphere
Mesopause
Mesophere
Stratopause
Stratosphere
Tropopause
Troposphere
