The percentage of sodium in pure table salt is approximately equal to 39.32 %.

Given:

The sample of the table salt is pure.

To Find:

The percentage of sodium in pure table salt.

Solution:

→ The chemical formula of table salt is NaCl (Sodium Chloride).

→ One mole of sodium ion (Na⁺) combines with one mole of chloride ion (Cl⁻) to form one mole of NaCl (Sodium Chloride) molecules.

The molar mass of sodium ion (Na⁺) is equal to 23 grams.

The molar mass of chloride ion (Cl⁻) is equal to 35.5 grams.

The molar mass of the NaCl molecule = 23 + 35.5 = 58.5 grams

It can be said that 23 grams of sodium ion (Na⁺) is present in 58.5 grams of pure table salt that is sodium chloride (NaCl).

We can now calculate the percentage of sodium in pure table salt:

    \boldsymbol{\therefore The \:percentage\:of\:the\:sodium\:ion\:in \:NaCl=\frac{23}{58.5}\times100 =39.32\:\%}

Therefore it can be said that the percentage of sodium in pure table salt is approximately equal to 39.32 %.
