6.2-7.6

The pH value of saliva can be 6.2 to 7.6 . Although we know that our body nither contain acidic not base it is neutral . Sometimes due to more production of hydrochloric acid in our stomach make up some amount of saliva acidic which goes up to the ratio of 7.6 .

Some extra information about PH value :-

The acidic , basic and neutral solutions can be tested by common indicators like litmus, methyl orange and phenolphthalein.

The fears of a solution is the negative logarithm to the base 10 of the hydrogen ion concentration expressed in moles per litre.

The number 7 on the pH scale represent the neutrality of the solution. we find that saliva has 6.2 to 7.6 value which can we state that it is neutral.

Number less than 7 indicates the acidic nature is increasing as the number decreases where as Number greater than 7 shows the alkalinity it increases as the number increases.

Importance of pH in everyday life:-

  1. Our body Works within a narrow pH range of 7.0 to 7.8.
  2. In agriculture every crops grow better in a particular pH range.
  3. In digestive system hydrochloric acid is produced in the stomach which helps in the digestion of food but if it become excess the pH value it cause pain and irritation occurs . To get rid of this acidic like milk of magnesia is generally used to adjust the pH.
  4. In medicine certain diseases are diagnosed only on the basis of PH value of blood in urine.
