pharynx a small funnel shaped chamber located behind the oral cavity communicates with both of our fathers and trachea which is called windpipe

The "Pharynx" is the organ which serves as a common passage for food and air.

  • Pharynx belongs to the group of organs that form the "Alimentary canal".

  • Pharynx helps in both- swallowing of food, as well as inhaling and exhaling air.

Notes :-

☆Pharynx is further divided into the following organs :-

  • Gullet
  • Glottis
  • Epiglottis

☆The "Gullet" is the aperture which allows food to enter into the "Oesophagus" (Food pipe).

☆The "Glottis" is the structure which allows air to enter into the "Trachea".

☆The "Epiglottis" is the structure which prevents the entry of food into the "Wind pipe" during swallowing food (mostly in mammals).
