LOCATION & SIZE.
~The approximate size of Belize is slightly smaller then Massachusetts
~The approximate location is Central American, bordering the Caribbean Sea, between Guatemala and Mexico.
~Belize's border countries are Guatemala (266 Km) and Mexico (250 Km)....
REGIONS.
North:
~ Orange Walk has the oldest and most impressive Mayan sites.
~Plentiful rainforest home to over 200 species of bird life as well as Howler monkeys, crocodiles and iguanas
West:
~Cayo is home to remote and beautiful jungles, also an underground cave network
South:
Southern Coast- Dangriga & Hopkins:
~spectacular snorkeling and diving in the South water Caye Marine Reserve
Souther Coast- Placenda:
~Beautiful beaches found along Placenda peninsula
~Whale sharks can usually be found off the coast of Placenda between April and June around the full moon
Punta Garda and Toledo district:
~Wetlands, rivers, waterfalls, vast areas of protected rainforest
CLIMATE.
The climate in Belize can range from very hot and humid, to rain. Rainy season is May to November, and dry season is usually February to May. The climate overall is very tropical.
WELL-KNOWN PHYSICAL FEATURES.
The Belize River, also know as the Old River, drains more than one-quater of the country as it winds along the northern edge of the Maya Mountains across the center of the country to the sea just north of Belize City. This river also serves as a vital source of drinking water and other domestic uses for the locals living along it.
The Maya Mountains are also very well-known. The highest peaks are Doyle's Delight at 1.124 meters and Victoria Peak at 1,120 meters. The Maya Mountains also contain numbers of Mayan Ruins....
