People living in ancient cities learned to live along the swamps, mountains, deserts and other geographic locations.  Almost all ancient cities were built around a river so that people could get access to agricultural produce easily.   Many of these civilisations lived around the mountains.   Ancient India was the most different because here cities were built around plains, mountains, rivers, deserts and almost every feature in physical geography.

The ancient civilization and thus the physical geography of an ancient city is based on the Nile river, the Mediterranean sea and the water bodies.

The Mesopotamian civilization, the city of Greece, Rome and others like the Chinese.

Indian and every other civilization were based on the supply of water from seas and oceans.
