As far as I am aware the current probationary services employ various psychometric methods in order to help them determine the risk value of an applicant. RISK is, I believe a psychometric test as is SARAH. Personally I have little faith in this kind of test and it can easily be circumvented, or controlled by a reasonably intelligent youth.

Notmally one weighs up the pros and cons of an action before deciding whether or not the risk is worth the effort. Here, the word ‘normally’ is most important. Young people are not well known for being responsibly ‘normal’. The brain is not fully formed until around 25 yrs. old. One of the most prevalent reasons for taking risks amongst youths is the desire for instant gratification. ‘I want it, and I want it now!’ Good parenting by example would be one way of controling it. Prison sentencing and physical diciplining are most certainly not!

It’s a very complex and lengthy subject, but I think that is enough for the moment.
