Explanation:

Shi is the wave function i. e. I the variable quantity that mathematically describes the wave charecteristics of a particle in the space. The value of wave function of a particle at a given point of time and space is likehood the particle is being there at the same time. By analogy with waves such as sound wave shi may the thought of as an amplitude of the particle wave i. e. de Broglie wave although such wave amplitude has no physical significance.

The square of shi, however, does have physical significance : the probability of finding a particle described by a specific wave function shi at a given point of time is given by shi square.
