What is the potential energy when intermolecular forces are decreases?

Change in potential energy of a system is defined as negative of work done by conservative force. So potential energy do not directly depends upon force. It depends also upon how much the displacement was done under action of force.



Now assuming the displacement to be same, greater is the force, greater will be work done and greater the decrease in potential energy.
