Power of a lens :

When a beam of light passes through a lens it gets deviated from its path. The deviation in the path of light produced by the lens is expresses in terms of power. A lens which produces more deviation has more power.

Definition:

The deviation of the incident light rays produced by a lens on refraction through it, is a measure of its power.

Relation b/w power & lens:

Power of lens (in diopter) = 1/focal length (in m)

  • P = 1/f

Power of convex lens is positive and negative for concave lens.
