If you observe any food packets like Haldirams, Lays or Cheetos, there is a large volume of void and it is filled by a gas. The gas generally used is Nitrogen as it is inert, cheap and helps to keep the contents fresh and crispy. (Helium is also rarely used because of it being expensive).
