the straight-walled beaker, all of the water is above the bottom, so the forces between the fluid and the wall are completely horizontal, and the forces against the bottom are purely vertical. The downward force of the water against the bottom of the beaker is just the weight of the cylindrical volume above it, so when you put it on a scale, the scale reads the weight of the beaker plus the weight of the water inside. The pressure is the weight of the water divided by the area of the bottom of the beaker.

karushi: but how u are sure that the beaker contains water. It is not given in the question
Pavithraa123: That's the exact question given in my book!
But still I have the same doubt that you have...
karushi: hmmm
karushi: i think u must consult ur teacher that what is inside the beaker
srusti1231: U can consider any liquid because liquid contained in beaker exerts pressure in all directions and at all points
srusti1231: this is the property of a liquid
