MLA-Member of Legislative Assembly (Representative of Lower House- Directly Elected by the people)

MLC-Member of Legislative Council (Representative of Upper House-Indirectly Elected by the people)

Indian states having unicameral state-legislature (Lower House only) have MLAs. (for example Tamil Nadu)

Indian states having bicameral state-legislature (Lower as well as Upper House) have both MLAs and MLCs. (for Example Maharashtra)

In Maharashtra: Lower House is Vidhan Sabha & Upper House is Vidhan Parishad.
