Principle of Electromagnetic induction:
For an electric motor
In prescence of flowing current in a magnetic field a force acts on the current carrying conductor.
For an electric generator
In prescence of a force acting on a conductor in prescence of magnetic field, the current gets induced.

The basic principle of motar is that
" when a current carrying conductor is placed between a magnetic feild it tends to rotate" and vise versa in case of genarator mechanical energy is converted to electrical energy.
Both have a common orign which is magnetic induction.
