The principle of floatation are:-
i) The weight W of body acting vertically downwards, through the centre of gravity G of the body. This force has a tendency to sink the body.
ii) The upthrust of the liquid acting vertically upwards, through the centre of buoyancy B i.e., the centre of gravity of the displaced liquid. The upthrust (or buoyant force) is equal in magnitude to the weight of the liquid displaced. This force has a tendency to make the body float.
