Given

  • pack of cards
  • card is drawn at random

To find

  • probability that if a card
  1. (i) a red card ,
  2. (ii) a club ,
  3. (iii) one of the court cards

Solution

we are provided with a deck of 52 cards and are said that a card is drawn from it at random and are asked to find the probability of selecting particular cards as given.

we know that probability of an event is the ratio of number of available event to total number of events.

Therefore, in the first case probability would be,

number of red card present in total number of cards = 26

total number of cards = 52

The probability of selecting a red card = 26/52

ln second case the probability would be,

total number of cards present in club = 13

total number of cards = 52

probability of selecting a card of club = 13/52

ln 3rd case the probability would be,

total number of courts card present = 3 ×4

or, 12

total number of cards = 52.

The required probability would be = 12/54.
