Defection is the practice in which elected representatives of the parliament, say MP's or MLA's, change their parties in order to get monetary rewards or for other reasons. to overcome it the the constitution has been amended in order to bring defection down. according to it any elected representative engaging in defection has to lose his or her seat in the legislature
