Filtration is the method used to seperate solids from a mixture of liquid.
There are different types of methods based on this, they are:
Gravity filtration,Filtercones, etc.
Example for filteration: For seperating dust/mud particles from a muddy water.

Filtration is a process to separate a mixture of insoluble solid from a liquid component which is filtered out using a filter paper.

If we have a solution of chalk and water, then we can pour the solution through the filter paper. The insoluble particles of chalk get collected on the filter paper. The liquid is separated out and gets collected in the beaker.
The chalk is collected in the filter paper thus separating the two mixtures.
