What is a Hiccup?
- A hiccup is that phenomenon of the body when the body tends to raise some air in and out rapidly causing "hiccup-ing" sound.
What is the cause of Hiccups?
- Hiccups occur when you eat something we know that our salivary amylase softens our food which is followed by crushing of food by teeth.
- Now, we also know that food enters the oesophagus or food pipe.
- During this process, there is a flap like structure called epi glottis.
- This epiglottis recieves both air from nasal passage and the bolus from our mouth.
During this process:-
- Sometimes the bolus of the food enters our wind pipe.
- To remove this food, hiccups are originated, so that the bolus can go on the right track ie the food pipe.
